On Call Helpers

PRIMARY DUTIES:

On Call Helpers are called in to work on shifts on an “as-needed, where needed” basis.  They are most often asked to work as helpers in a fast-paced bindery, pressroom or shipping manufacturing department environment.  These employees often perform repetitive tasks, some of which may be physically demanding as there is often standing for extended periods and handling of heavy loads.  This manufacturing environment is a continuous operation facility with high-speed equipment and noise level associated with large print/bindery equipment. 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Hand Collating
  • Folding and Gluing kit folders
  • Hand Spiraling
  • Hand folding
  • Using a 3 hole punch
  • Sorting, , packing, shrink wrapping, craft wrapping and boxing materials and products
  • Stacking printed product
  • Counting, listing and inventorying items
  • Basic Data Entry
  • Assisting machine operators, assemblers and other workers
  • Feeding different types of bindery machines.
  • Cleaning work areas and equipment
  • Performing other labour and elemental activities

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Some general labour work experience
  • Computer Literacy
  • English Literacy is required, including: the ability to read, write and speak at a grade 12 (or equivalent) level.
  • Numeracy skills
  • Ability to lift up to  23 kg (50 lbs) on a repetitive basis
  • Steel-toe safety boots required
  • Ability  to work long shifts and stand for extended periods
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to work safely
